Box ScoreROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Grinnell College women's tennis team rolled past Augustana College 7-2 in a battle of regionally-ranked squads Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers, 19th in the Central Region, improved to 16-7 with the win while the No. 16 Vikings dropped to 17-6.
Grinnell got off to a great start, sweeping doubles play with the duos of
Shirlene Luk '15-
Clothilde Thirouin '14 (8-6),
Sadhana Athreya '14-
Emma Macdonald '14 (8-1) and
Hanna Feldman '14-
Shanaz Daneshdoost '17 (8-2).
Grinnell got singles wins from Athreya at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), Feldman at No. 4 (6-3, 6-1),
Virginia Purcell '17 at No. 5 (6-1, 6-2) and Macdonald at No. 6 (6-3, 7-6).
The Pioneers' next action will be the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament in early May.
