MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Grinnell College women's tennis team opened Midwest Conference play with a pair of shutouts Saturday, beating both Knox College and Monmouth College by 9-0 scores.
 
Singles winners for Grinnell in both matches were Shirlene Luk '15 (6-1, 6-2 against Knox and 6-2, 6-2 against Monmouth), Virginia Purcell '17 (6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0), Hannah Cook '17 (6-0, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-1), Anushka Joshi '18 (6-1, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-0), Julia Rumley '16 (6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0) and Briannah Wilson '17 (6-2, 6-2 and 7-5, 6-0).
 
In doubles, Luk and Purcell won 8-3 against Knox and 8-1 against Monmouth. Cook and Rumley won 8-1 in both matches, while Joshki and Sydney Banach '18 won 8-0 against Knox and 8-1 against Monmouth.
 
Grinnell, 3-2 overall, plays another MWC contest Sunday when it competes at Illinois College.
