Grinnell 8, Ripon 1GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College women's tennis team continues to roll, including a win over the defending Midwest Conference champion on Saturday.
The Pioneers beat last year's champ, St. Norbert College, by a 5-4 score at the 10th Avenue Courts and then sailed past Ripon College 8-1 to improve to 6-0 in the league and 7-2 overall.
The Pioneers swept doubles play against St. Norbert with wins by the teams of
Judith Fan-
Amelia Cogan (8-6),
Megan Jans-
Lily Hamilton (8-5) and
Sydney Banach-
Julia Rumley (8-2).
Hamilton also won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and Banach 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.
Against Ripon, Grinnell swept singles with Fan (7-6, 6-1),
Virginia Purcell (6-1, 6-1), Jans (6-0, 6-0), Hamilton (6-2, 6-0),
Anushka Joshi (6-1, 6-4) and
Minna Montgomery (6-2, 6-0).
Grinnell won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles with the teams of Hamilton-Jans (8-2) and Banach-Rumley (8-0).
