Pioneer women's tennis team concludes spring break trip with pair of wins

ORLANDO, Fla. – Grinnell College's women's tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip in style Friday, topping Calvin College 6-3 and Nichols College 7-2.
 
Double winners for Grinnell against Calvin were Shirlene Luk '15 and Julia Rumley '16. Luk won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Virginia Purcell '17 to earn an 8-1 decision at the top doubles spot.
 
Rumley won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, while she and Sydney Banach '18 won 9-8 at No. 3 doubles.
 
Grinnell also got singles wins from Hannah Cook '18 at No. 3 (6-0, 6-1) and Minna Montgomery '16 at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3).
 
In the match against Nichols, Grinnell got singles wins from Luk at No. 1 (default), Purcell at No. 2 (1-6, 6-3, 10-6), Cook at No. 3 (6-2, retired), Rumley at No. 5 (6-0, 6-1) and Montgomery at No. 6 (6-0, 6-1).
 
Luk and Purcell won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Sydney Banach '18 and Kitt Richards '18 posted an 8-5 win at No.3.
 
Grinnell, 12-6, plays at Coe College on April 4.
