Box Score JANESVILLE, Wis. – The Grinnell College softball team not only won its first contest of the season Saturday afternoon, but the Pioneers did so in dominating fashion.
Sage Juveland '17 pounded out three hits and five RBIs with the aid of a homer and triple, and
Kayla Morrissey '18 also homered as the Pioneers cruised past Ripon College 10-0 in five innings at the Midwest Conference Crossover.
Melissa Anderson '18 was the picture of pitching efficiency, tossing a two-hit shutout while striking out three and not issuing a walk.
Kristina Weber '16 had three hits for Grinnell, including a triple, while Morrissey and
Lydia Stariha '17 added two each in the Pioneers' 13-hit attack. Stariha had a double among her totals.
Grinnell jumped all over Ripon immediately, tallying four runs in the first inning alone. Juveland belted an RBI double to right-center, Morrissey had a solo homer to left and
Jordan Matosky '16 had a bases-loaded walk.
The Pioneers got three more runs in the second with the aid of Juveland's two-run homer to center and Weber's RBI single up the middle.
After being held scoreless in the third and fourth innings, Grinnell got three runs in the fifth on an RBI single up the middle by Maggie Rermus '17 and two-run single up the middle by Juveland.
Grinnell, 1-18, takes on St. Norbert College and Carroll University on Sunday.
