Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's softball team battled toe-to-toe with Monmouth College in the opener of Sunday afternoon's twin bill before the Fighting Scots eked out a 2-0 victory.
 
Monmouth completed the sweep with a 12-5 victory at the Softball Complex.
 
Melissa Anderson '18 had a solid pitching outing for Grinnell in the opener, scattering eight hits and striking out one. Sage Juveland '17 had two of Grinnell's seven this.
 
In the second game, Lydia Stariha '17 paced Grinnell's nine-hit attack with three hits. Kayla Morrissey '18 and Megan Gibson '17 had two apiece.
 
Monmouth got out to a 6-0 lead with five runs in the first inning and another in the second. The Pioneers got one back in the second on Gibson's RBI single to center.
 
Monmouth then grabbed a 10-1 lead with four runs in the third.
 
In the fifth, Grinnell tacked three more runs. Jordan Matosky '16 had an RBI single to left, and two more runs were plated when Juveland reached base on an error.
 
After the Fighting Scots scored twice in the sixth, Grinnell scored in the bottom of the frame on Stariha's RBI single up the middle.

During the twin bill, Stariha set the school record for at bats in a season. She now has 117.
 
Grinnell finishes MWC play at 5-10 and has a 6-27 overall record. Monmouth improved to 6-9 in the league and 12-22 in all games.
 
The Pioneers close out their campaign with a doubleheader at Buena Vista University. The first pitch is slated for 4:30 p.m.
