2016 MWC Tournament WebsiteGRINNELL, Iowa - For the first time since the 2003-04 season, the Grinnell College women's basketball team is prepping for the Midwest Conference Tournament.
The Pioneers, who are have won the most league games in program history, are 12-6 in MWC play and 15-8 overall. They are the tourney's third seed and take on second-seeded Cornell College at 3:30 p.m. Friday in De Pere, Wis. The winner advances to Saturday's title game, where an NCAA berth awaits that victor.
Grinnell's third-place regular-season finish is the highest in prorgram history since the 1990-91 saeason.
"I am very proud of our team and the work they have put in this season to earn a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time in over 10 years," said Grinnell coach
Dana Harrold. "The growth and evolvement of this team the last couple seasons is something we are all really excited about. Â I credit their work ethic and team unity as two things that have really helped us reach another level this season.
"IÂ have coached a lot of outstanding student-athletes, but this group collectively is really special," she added. "I am so happy that we were able to earn another week together, another road trip together and hopefully several more games together."Â
