ORLANDO, Fla. - In their second match on spring break the Grinnell College women's tennis team tested their skills against Hope College, the No. 27 team in the nation.
Head Coach
Andy Hamilton evaluated, "We played much better today than on our first day of break. While the overall team score does not look great, I am pleased with the progress we made today."
The lone win for Grinnell came from the No. 2 doubles tandem of
Megan Jans and
Anushka Joshi as they posted an 8-6 victory. Hamilton projected, "This was Megan's day, she was our most competitive player in both singles and doubles.
Amelia Cogan and
Judith Fan fell 8-4 at No. 1 doubles while
Sydney Banach and
Julia Rumley came from behind but fell, 8-6.
All of the Pioneers were defeated in singles. At No. 1 Fan fell, 6-2, 6-3; No. 2 Ginny Purcell, 6-1, 6-0; No. 3 Jans, 6-2, 6-3; No. 4 Joshi, 6-2, 6-2; No. 5
Lily Hamilton, 6-2, 6-1; No. 6
Minna Montgomery, 6-4, 6-3.
The Pioneers take to the courts again
on Thursday as they face off against Central Region opponent Carthage.
