Box Score INDIANOLA, IA - The Pioneer offense used their speed to strike early on Wednesday night, jumping out to a 14-2 lead before going on to beat Simpson College 15-7 in non-conference action.
Â
Six Pioneers combined to steal seven bases without being thrown out,
Ravi Levens '19 was the only Grinnell player with two swipes. It wasn't just the speed of the Scarlet & Black carrying the day as fifteen hits, five of which went for extra bases, and ten walks didn't hurt the visitor's cause either.Â
Â
Niko Takayesu '17 had two hits and drove in four,
Anthony Mack '16 had three hits and three RBI,
Matt Godinsky '16 hit two doubles and knocked in three teammates.
Â
Grinnell scored two runs in the first and second innings, three in the third and erupted for seven in the fourth to open up the 14-2 lead and staked starter
Noah Mathews '17 to his second win of the season.Â
Â
In typical mid-week non-conference baseball, both teams threw numerous different pitchers and Mathews' two shutout innings were bookended by
Jay Goldsher '18 and
Ben Binversie '17 combining for 3 1/3 innings of two-hit shut out baseball.Â
Â
Grinnell's record sits at 22-4 (8-0 MWC) and travels to Illinois College for a four-game series this Saturday and Sunday. Live webcast and stats available here:Â
