Grinnell tennis team gains key league victory over Cornell

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's tennis team kept its perfect Midwest Conference mark intact Sunday, winning a key league battle over Cornell College 8-1.
 
Milica Cvrkota '21 beat the defending MWC No. 1 singles champion 6-3, 6-2 as Grinnell swept singles play. Other winners were Amelia Cogan '19 (6-1, 6-1), Ali Hickey '21 (6-1 6-2), Abby Nielsen '21 (6-2, 6-1), Anushka Joshi '18 (6-0, 6-0) and Lily Hamilton '19 (6-2, 6-1).
 
Cvrkota and Cogan won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, giving Cogan 62 doubles wins in her Pioneer career. That figure ranks fourth in program history as she moved past Katie Colver.
 
Also winning was the No. 2 doubles unit of Hickey and Nielsen, who posted an 8-2 decision.
 
Grinnell is now 6-0 in league play and 8-1 overall, while Cornell fell to 4-2 in the MWC and 5-5 overall.
 
The Pioneers close out the fall regular season next weekend with home matches against St. Norbert College, Ripon College and Lawrence University before taking part in the MWC Singles and Doubles Tournament.
