Amelia Cogan '19 tied Grinnell College's career record for doubles victories while helping the Pioneer women's tennis team to a pair of victories Thursday.
The Pioneers opened the day by winning a 5-4 thriller over Calvin College and closed out their spring break trip with a 7-2 decision over New Paltz.
Cogan and
Ali Hickey '21 won No. 2 doubles matches against Calvin (8-4) and New Paltz (8-0) to boost the former's career doubles total victory to 71, tying
Shirlene Luk for the school lead. Additionally, Cogan has 22 doubles wins this season which is tied for fourth-best in program history.
Anushka Joshi '18 moved into an eighth-place tie for career doubles wins with 55 after teaming with
Brenda Guan '20 for a pair of victories at No. 3, beating Calvin 8-4 and New Paltz 8-6.
Milica Cvrkota '21 and
Abby Nielsen '21 completed the doubles sweep against New Paltz by winning 8-3 at the top spot.
Grinnell got singles wins against Calvin in the No. 3 through 5 spots with Hickey (6-2, 6-1), Nielsen (6-1, 6-2) and Joshi (6-2, 6-7, 12-10).
Those same three won matches against New Paltz by scores of 6-1, 6-1 (Hickey), 6-0, 6-2 (Nielsen) and 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 (Joshi). Cvrkota added a 6-4, 6-1 decision at No. 1.
Cvrkota has 22 singles wins this season, which ranks fifth in program history, while the 20 wins by Nielsen and Hickey rank ninth.
Grinnell improved its mark to 14-3 on the season.
