Progress of new tennis court construction

GRINNELL, Iowa - Playing the first match on Grinnell College's new and expanded outdoor tennis courts, the host Pioneers and Augustana College women's teams fittingly played a high-quality match.

That was evident from the start, when all three doubles matches turned into marathons and were decided by 8-6 scores. Grinnell's Brenda Guan '20 and Isabel Green '22 won by that margin at the second spot, while Abby Nielsen '21 and Emma Gaydos '22 narrowly lost at No. 1 as did Lily Hamilton '19 and Sara Amano '22 at No. 3.

Grinnell won at each end in singles, as Nielsen posted a 6-3, 6-3 decision at No. 1 and Amano won a thriller 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 6. Hamilton also had an exciting match, taking her foe to three sets at the fourth spot.

Grinnell is now 3-1 overall, while Augustana's record remained unblemished at 4-0. The Pioneers play key Midwest Conference matches Saturday at Beloit College and Lake Forest College.
