Pioneer women's tennis team splits MWC contests

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team came away with a Midwest Conferernce split Saturday, blanking Beloit College 9-0 and falling to unbeaten Lake Forest College 6-3.

The shutout win against Beloit was the Pioneers' fourth of that fashion this season. Grinnell opened with dominating wins in doubles by the teams of Abby Nielsen '21-Emma Gaydos '22 (8-2), Brenda Guan '20-Isabel Green '22 (8-1) and Lily Hamilton '19-Sara Amano '22 (8-2).

Nielsen won a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 1 singles, while Hamilton and Amana won by 6-0, 6-1 scores at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively. Gaydos posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2, Green won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 and Guan won her first set at No. 5 6-1 before claiming the match via retirement.

Grinnell got its wins against Lake Forest at the Nos. 1, 3 and 5 singles spots with Nielsen (6-2, 4-6, 6-4), Green (6-5, retired) and Guan (7-5, 1-6, 11-9).

Grinnell, 4-1 in the MWC and 4-2 overall, will compete in the ITA Regional Tournament next weekend.
