CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's tennis team enjoyed a superb Sunday against two high-quality opponents, beating Cornell College 6-3 and Coe College 7-2.
The win over Cornell moved Grinnell to 5-1 in Midwest Conference play. Following with the non-league win over Coe, the Pioneers improved to 5-2 overall.
Isabel Green '22 was a perfect 4-for-4 on the day, winning twice in singles and twice in doubles. At the No. 3 spot against Cornell, she posted a 6-3, 6-1 win and against Coe won 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 position. Green teamed with
Brenda Guan '20 to win 8-3 at the No. 2 doubles spot against Cornell and 8-6 in the contest with Coe.
Guan was a triple winner on the day, earning a 6-2, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 singles spot in the Cornell contest.
Lily Hamilton '19 won three times, as well, posting a No. 4 singles win against Cornell (6-3, 6-3), No. 5 singles win against Coe (6-2, 6-1) and No. 3 doubles win with
Sara Amano '22 against Cornell (8-1).
Abby Nielsen '21 won twice at No. 1 singles, with decisions of 6-1, 6-0 against Cornell and 6-1, 6-3 against Coe. Other singles winners against Coe were
Emma Gaydos '22 (6-3, 6-3 at No. 2),
Ali Hickey '21 (6-1, 6-1 at No. 3) and Amano (6-1, 6-0 at No. 6).
Grinnell closes out the 2018 fall regular season next weekend with home matches against Knox College and Illinois College Saturday and Monmouth College Sunday.
