DE PERE, Wis. – The Grinnell College men's basketball team is back in the Midwest Conference Tournament for the first time since the 2014-15 season, and the Pioneers are looking to make some noise.

Grinnell, which has tied the school record for wins with a 19-5 mark, is the second seed and will face third-seeded Lake Forest College at 5 p.m. in the Mulva Center on the campus of St. Norbert College. Lake Forest brings a 16-9 mark into the game.

The Pioneers just defeated the Foresters last Saturday by a 125-119 score, a game in which Vinny Curta '19 broke the NCAA Division III record for career free throw attempts. Curta, who hit 16-of-18 free throws in the game, finished with 39 points. Jackson Qualley '22 added 24 and Ky-Sean Johnson '19 scored 18 all on 6-of-10 shooting from 3-point range.

Sam Husting, who drained 11-of-14 shots from 3-point land, had 35 points for the Foresters while Jordan Moran scored 28 and Andrew Harvey tallied 16.

Grinnell also defeated the Foresters 108-100 in November. Qualley had 23 points for Grinnell, Curta scored 20 and Johnson had 16. Danny Sotos led the Foresters with 25 points, Sean Espinosa had 18 and Tashon Brown tallied 15.

The winner faces either top-seeded St. Norbert College or fourth-seeded Monmouth College in the title game at 3 p.m. Saturday. That winner gets the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
