Lily Hamilton '19 made the most of her final competition at 10th Avenue Courts, going 4-for-4 as the Grinnell College women's tennis team split matches Saturday.
The Pioneers opened the day with a 6-3 marathon loss to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, ranked 15th in the Central Region. Grinnell bounced back to bounce Coe College 8-1 to improve to 15-8 on the season, the eighth-most wins in program history.
Grinnell got one of three doubles matches from UW-Eau Claire, that coming at the No. 3 spot where Hamilton and
Sara Amano '22 won 8-6. Hamilton added a 6-0, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 singles spot and
Brenda Guan '20 won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 6.
The Pioneers showed they meant business from the start against Coe, sweeping doubles play with the teams of
Abby Nielsen '21-
Judith Fan '19 (8-3),
Isabel Green '22-Guan (8-4) and Amano-Hamilton (8-6).
Grinnell finished off the match with wins at the Nos. 2 through 6 singles spots with Fan (6-0, 6-0), Green (6-4, 7-5), Hamilton (6-2, 6-0), Amano (6-3, 6-3) and Guan (6-1, 6-0).
With her wins, Amano ranks 12th in both singles and doubles wins in a season at Grinnell with 21 each. Hamilton is 13th in singles wins for a season with 20 and Guan's 19 doubles win rank 19th. On the career chart, Hamilton is ninth in doubles victories with 55 and Fan ranks 12th in singles wins with 47.
The Pioneers' next stop is Madison, Wis., where they'll meet Cornell College in the opening round of the Midwest Conference Team Tournament Thursday. That event also serves as the NCAA Division III National Tournament qualifying competition.
