MADISON, Wis. – Grinnell College's women's tennis team hopes to follow up a successful regular season with a strong postseason when the Pioneers compete in the Midwest Conference Team Tournament Thursday.

The Pioneers, second in the MWC regular-season standings, play at 11:30 a.m. against No. 3 seed Cornell College at Nielsen Tennis Complex. The winner plays either top-seeded Lake Forest College or No. 4 seed St. Norbert College in the title match at 4 p.m., with that winner earning the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

Grinnell, 15-8 on the season, defeated Cornell 6-3 last September. The Pioneers have a 69.3 percent winning percentage in singles play, with leaders including
Abby Nielsen '21 (22-10 record),
Judith Fan '19 (9-3),
Emma Gaydos '22 (14-8),
Isabel Green '22 (18-10),
Lily Hamilton '19 (20-10),
Sara Amano '22 (21-7) and
Brenda Guan '20 (11-4).

Nielsen and Fan are 5-6 in doubles play, while other doubles units consist of Green and Guan (19-6) and Hamilton and Amano (16-4). Grinnell has a 66.0 winning percentage in doubles matches.
