Grinnell women's tennis team falls just short in 5-4 thriller against Luther

GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's tennis battles with Luther College seem to always be thrillers, and Sunday's contest was no different.
 
The Pioneers lost a narrow 5-4 decision to the Norse in non-conference action. Grinnell trailed 2-1 after doubles play, with the win coming from Isabel Green '22 and Brenda Guan '20 at the third spot via an 8-4 score.
 
Abby Nielsen '21 tied the contest at 2-all with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. The teams then traded points, with Judith Fan '19 winning a 6-4, 6-1 decision for Grinnell at No. 4. Luther closed out the win with two more singles victories before Lily Hamilton '19 earned a 6-3, 6-2 decision at the No. 5 spot to account for the final score.
 
Green's doubles win gave her 22 for the season, which is seventh-best in program history. Nielsen ranks 11th for singles wins in a year with 21 and her career total of 47 is also 11th.
 
The Pioneers, 13-6 overall, host Central College on Friday. Luther moved to 12-7 with the win.
