Grinnell women's tennis team punches ticket to NCAA D-III National Tournament

MIDDLETON, Wis. - Grinnell College's weekend at the Midwest Conference Women's Tennis Tournament got off to a perfect start, as the Pioneers sewed up their 11th trip to the NCAA Division III National Tournament.

The Pioneers accomplished that feat by topping Lake Forest College 5-1 in the MWC Team Tourney title match at Hitters SportsPlex.

The win pushes Grinnell's season record to 10-0 and extended its winning streak against MWC opposition to 23 matches, dating back to the 2018-19 season.

Grinnell grabbed a 3-0 lead over Lake Forest with a doubles sweep by the duos of Irene Agusti '24-Ioanna Giannakou '24 (8-4), Mira Manchanda '24-Sophia de los Reyes '23 (8-3) and Erin Jarvis '25-Lily Perrin '25 (8-2).

Jarvis made it 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the No. 6 singles spot. After the Foresters got a win, Agusti clinched the team victory with a 6-1, 6-3 decision at the second slot.

Grinnell advanced to the title match with a 5-0 win over Cornell College earlier in the day. The Pioneers swept doubles with wins by the duos of Agusti-Giannakou (8-1), Manchanda-de los Reyes (8-1) and Jarvis-Perrin (8-1).

The victory was clinched as Sydney Marin '25 and Kalea Martin '25 posted 6-0, 6-0 wins at the Nos. 5 and 6 singles spots.

The MWC Tourney continues Saturday with individual doubles competition, while the singles event is slated for Sunday.
