Easy win over Beloit pushes GC football team to 2-1 in league for first time since 2010

BELOIT, Wis. – For the first time in more than a decade, Grinnell College's football team is 2-1 in the Midwest Conference after the Pioneers brushed away Beloit College 40-13 Saturday afternoon.
 
The last time the Pioneers achieved a 2-1 league mark was 2010, while the last time they were 2-2 overall was the following season.
 
But that was nowhere close to a dig through the team's record book. Nick Rhinehart's '25 two field goals are tied for third-most in program history and nine points kicking are tied for seventh. Additionally, Grayson Woodhouse '24 completed 75 percent of his passes (18-of-24), which is tied for 12th-best at Grinnell.
 
As a team, Grinnell's five rushing touchdowns are tied for second all-time, the pass completion rate of 75 percent ranks ninth and the 10 tackles for loss are tied for 10th. The 81 all-purpose attempts are 11th and the five sacks tied for 11th, while 59 rushing attempts are tied for 12th.
 
Grinnell piled up 471 total yards and 30 first downs, while limiting the Buccaneers to 120 yards and seven first downs.
 
Woodhouse threw for 202 yards, while Danny Carter '22 led the rushing attack with 149 yards. Rhinehart caught eight passes for 91 yards and Dustin Saia '22 had four snags for 74 yards.
 
The defense featured a balanced attack with Adam Khater '23 collecting six tackles and Tim Johnson '24 five. Blady Cavazos '25 had a sack-and-a-half, Khater, Johnson and Tom Henehan '22 had one each and Will Reyes '25 contributed a half-sack. Hugh Werner '25 added an interception.
 
Grinnell scored touchdowns on its first three drives, with Daniel Quirk '25 running for consecutive 5-yard runs at the 9:37 and 5:23 marks of the first period and Carter adding a 16-yard score at the 14:17 mark of the second. Rhinehart's points after put the Pioneers ahead 21-0.
 
Beloit, 0-3 in the MWC and 0-4 in all games, got a TD at the 12:28 mark of the second period before Rhinehart closed out the half's scoring with a 37-yard field goal with 9 seconds left, making it 24-7 entering the locker room.
 
Rhinehart blasted a 28-yard field goal at the 8:04 mark of the third period and Woodhouse raced in from 6 yards out with 8:23 left in the game to make it 33-7.
 
The teams traded TDs the rest of the way, with Beloit scoring at the 6:01 mark and Hayden Moses '25 adding a 3-yard score with 2:18 left. Ricky Morri '23 had the point after to account for the final score.
 
Grinnell is back at Rosenbloom Field next Saturday to entertain Ripon College in a 1 p.m. affair.
