Grinnell women's tennis team inches closer to MWC title with 2 wins Saturday

MONMOUTH, Ill. - A pair of dominating wins Saturday afternoon pushed the Grinnell College women's tennis team ever so close to yet another Midwest Conference title.

The Pioneers, who have won 20 consecutive matches against league foes dating back to the 2018-19 season, blanked both Monmouth College and Illinois College by 9-0 scores.

That pushed Grinnell's all-time record against Monmouth to 26-0 and against the Lady Blues to 31-0.

Grinnell posted a complete shutout of Monmouth, winning all six singles matches 6-0, 6-0 and all three doubles bouts 8-0.

Singles winners, in order, were Sabrina Tang '23, Sophia de los Reyes '23, Erin Jarvis '25, Utsah Kalra 25, Kalea Martin '25 and Sydney Marin '25. Doubles winners were the tandems of Mira Manchanda '24-de los Reyes, Lily Perrin '25-Jarvis and Irene Agusti '24-Martin.

Against Illinois College, the Nos. 2 through 5 singles lineup of Manchanda, de los Reyes, Perrin and Marin all won 6-0, 6-0. Agusti posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 and Martin won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6.

Tang and Agusti earned an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, Perrin and Jarvis won 8-3 at the second spot and Kalra teamed with Marin to win 8-1 at No. 3.

Grinnell, 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the MWC, will attempt to clinch the league crown Sunday at home against Lake Forest College. Match time is 9 a.m.
