JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team got off to a dazzling start and never looked back in topping Illinois College 9-0 Sunday afternoon. 
 
That start included three 8-0 doubles shutout wins in as many attempts. Units earning the goose-egg wins were Ioanna Giannakou '24-Sabrina Tang '23 at No. 1, Ali Hickey '21-Sophia de los Reyes '23 at No. 2 and Mira Manchanda '24-Josephine Blumenthal '23 at No. 3. 
 
But the shutous didn't stop there, as Grinnell had four 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles. Those came from Tang at the second spot, Manchada at No. 4, de los Reyes at the fifth spot and Emma Gaydos '22 at No. 6. 
 
Giannakou won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 and Irene Agusti '24 earned a 6-2, 6-1 decision at No. 4 as the Pioneers improved to 2-0 both in the Midwest Conference South Division and overall. Illinois College is 1-1 in the league and 2-8 in all matches. 
 
Grinnell is back in action next Saturday at Monmouth College.
