Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College's women's basketball team grabbed a one-point halftime lead, but Knox College rallied in the third period and held on in the fourth for a 75-66 win Tuesday night in Darby Gymnasium.
Grinnell (1-1 Midwest Conference, 2-5 overall) had a balanced scoring attack led by
Eva Carchidi '24 with 12 points and
Erin Lillis '24 with 10.
Sarah Toay '23 grabbed eight rebounds and
Skylar Thomas '26 dished out four assists. Tops in the steals department were
Annabel Dougherty '25 and
Nikki Ware '25 with two apiece.
After leading by one at half, Grinnell got off to a great start in the third period, building a seven-point lead at 36-29 on a layup by
Sara Booher '25. Later, Dougherty's traditional three-point play made it a nine-point game at 43-34 with 5:31 left in the period.
But Knox (1-0 MWC, 4-1 overall) charged back and went up 52-48 by the end of the frame. Grinnell chipped into the lead in the fourth quarter and drew even on a traditional three-point play by Thomas, making it 56-all with 7:32 remaining.
However, the visitors took off from there to secure the win.
Grinnell travels to Appleton, Wis., this weekend to face Lawrence University on Saturday. Game time is 1 p.m.
