GRINNELL, Iowa – Though only the first meet of the 2022-23 season, two athletes shattered Grinnell College men's school records at the Grinnell Opener indoor track and field meet Friday.

Competing in their first-ever competition at the Bear Center Field House,
Lucas Fadden '26 snapped Grinnell's record in the 60-meter dash and
Ian Clawson '26 did the same in the weight throw.
Â
Fadden's winning time of 7.05 seconds beat the previous Grinnell record of 7.12, established in 2012 by Dylan Boucher. Clawson destroyed the weight throw school record with a first-place toss of 53 feet, 4 ½ inches. Grinnell's previous mark was established by Darren McNabb, who threw 50-6 ¾ in 2006. Clawson's record ranks 19
th nationally and Fadden's clocking is 35
th.

Other champs for Grinnell were Fadden in the 200 (23.26) and
Luca Fornari '25 in the pole vault (13-8 ¼). Fadden's time is eighth in program history and Fornari's leap ranks 10
th.

Runners-up for Grinnell were
Xavier James '25 in the 60 hurdles (9.49),
Noah Mendola '26 in the 300 (38.47),
John Miller '26 in the 3000 (9:28.80) and
Theo Richter '23 in the weight throw (49-1/4). James' time is No. 3 in program history and Richter's toss is fifth.

Placing third were Mendola in the 60 hurdles (10.21), James in the 200 (24.37),
Jack Novelle '26 in the high jump (6-3/4) and the 4x400 relay team (3:59.21) of
Moise Milenge '26,
Brian Goodell '24,
Bradley Ramsey '24 and
Tyler Ching '26. Mendola's time is fifth in program history.

Garret Bean '24 had a toss of 43-6 in the weight throw, which ranks sixth in program history.

Grinnell was third in the team standings with 56 points. Coe College won with 81.
