Grinnell sees 10-game winning streak halted by Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - All good things must eventually come to an end.

Grinnell College's men's basketball team, which had pieced together a 10-game winning streak, saw that come to a halt Saturday afternoon with a 110-90 loss to Lake Forest College.

However, things are anything but bleak for the Pioneers. They conclude the regular season Sunday at Illinois College and then will play in the Midwest Conference Tournament semifinals next Friday.

Patrick Simms '22 scored 18 points for Grinnell on 7-of-10 shooting, while Brady Vest '23 tallied a career-best 17 points by hitting 7-of-8 shots from the field including 3-of-4 from 3-point land.

Christian Brookens '22 and Aiden Gilbert '23 were also in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Vest also had four rebounds, Simms came up with two steals and three players had one assist each. Simms now has 122 career steals, good for 16th in program history.

Lake Forest bolted out to a 13-2 lead to start the game, but the Pioneers rallied and came within 36-32 with 4:50 left in the half on free throws by Brookens.

The hosts closed the half with a flurry, though, leading 50-37 heading into the locker room. Grinnell, 10-5 in the MWC and 16-7 overall, got as close as 11 late in the second half when Vest's trey made it 99-88. But Lake Forest, 9-7 in the MWC and 10-15 overall, answered with a four-point run on its way to victory.

Grinnell's game at Illinois College Sunday tips off at 2 p.m.
