GC women's tennis team takes down nationally-ranked North Central at Midwest Invite

MADISON, Wis. - Grinnell College's women's tennis teams toppled its second nationally-ranked foe this season Friday, working past North Central College 5-4 at the Midwest Invite.

 
Grinnell made a massive comeback, rallying from a 3-0 hole after doubles play to beat the 27th-ranked Cardinals at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
 
The Pioneers got it going in singles, collecting wins at No. 1 from Sabrina Tang '23 (6-0, 6-0), Ioanna Giannakou '24 at No. 3 (6-2, 6-0), Sophia de los Reyes '23 at No. 4 (6-3, 6-2) and Utsah Kalra '25 at No. 5 (7-5, 6-2). Grinnell secured the victory with a marathon 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 win by Lily Perrin '25 at No. 6.
 
In the semifinals, Grinnell lost an 8-1decision to another nationally-ranked team, No. 21 Washington University of St. Louis. The Pioneers' win came at No. 1 singles, as Tang posted a 6-1, 6-0 decision.
 
Tang continues to work her way up Grinnell's season and career singles wins chart. She has 22 victories this season, good for ninth all-time, and her 44 career wins rank 16th.
 
Grinnell, 15-5, will play 33rd-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for third place at 11 a.m. Saturday.
