Grinnell women's tennis team sails by Luther in battle of regionally-ranked teams

WINONA, Minn. - In a battle involving two regionally-ranked women's tennis teams, Grinnell College had no trouble in defeating Luther College 8-1 Sunday.

 
The Pioneers, ranked ninth in the Central Region, took off for a 2-1 lead through doubles play with wins by the No. 1 unit of Ioanna Giannakou '24-Sabrina Tang '23 (8-6) and No. 3 team of Lily Perrin '25 and Erin Jarvis '25 (8-2).
 
Grinnell finished things off with a sweep of singles, including a 6-0, 6-0 shutout by Tang at No. 1. Tang has 24 singles wins this year, fifth-best in program history and just three away from the record. Her 46 career singles victories rank 14th.
 
Rounding out the list of singles winners were Mira Manchanda '24 at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2), Giannakou at No. 3 (6-0, 6-2), Sophia de los Reyes '23 at No. 4 (6-4, 6-4), Perrin at No. 5 (7-5, 6-2) and Utsah Kalra '25 at No. 6 (6-2, 6-3).
 
Grinnell improved to 17-5 with the victory while Luther, ranked 16th regionally, fell to 14-8.
 
The Pioneers take to the road to face Washington University of St. Louis on Saturday.
