GC women's tennis team puts up great fight against top-ranked Chicago in NCAA Regional final

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Grinnell College's women's tennis team may have seen its record-breaking season ended by the nation's top-ranked squad Saturday, but the Pioneers didn't go quietly.

 
The University of Chicago, ranked first in NCAA Division III as well as the Central Region, defeated 35th-ranked Grinnell 5-0 in the Regional championship match at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex.
 
Sabrina Tang '23 and Ioanna Giannakou '24 fell 8-3 in a battle of regionally-ranked duos at No.1 doubles. Mira Manchanda '24 and Irene Agusti '24 fell 8-2 at No. 2 and Erin Jarvis '25 and Lily Perrin '25 lost 8-0 at No. 3.
 
Chicago finished off the win at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, with the nation's No. 33 player beating Sophia de los Reyes '24 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Perrin losing 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.
 
Tang, ranked 12th nationally in singles, beat the No. 10 player 6-4 in the opening set at No. 1 singles and Agusti was leading her foe 4-2 at No. 3 after losing the opening set.
 
Chicago improved to 20-1 with the win and Grinnell, which set a school record for wins in a season on Friday, finished at 21-7.
 
Tang's season will continue as she competes in the NCAA D-III Singles Tournament in two weeks.
