Pioneer women complete run for Grinnell Invitational title

GRINNELL, Iowa - Grinnell College's women's swimming and diving team finished off what it had started the day before, claiming the overall crown at the Grinnell Invitational Saturday.


The Pioneers were impressive the entire weekend while knocking off nationally-ranked St. Catherine University by a 1,237-1,026.5  margin at Russell K. Osgood Pool. It was the third Grinnell Invitational title in a row for the hosts.

Grinnell won two events Saturday, as November Brown '23 was first in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1 minute, 8.76 seconds and Sarah Lopez '26 won the 200 backstroke in a personal-best time of 2:11.63.

Sophia Carroll '25 and Camryn Gonzales '25 each placed second in three events - Carroll in the 1650 freestyle (18:34.50) and 200 freestyle (1:59.18) and as part of the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.62) and Gonzales in the 100 butterfly (58.73), 400 freestyle relay and part of the 200 medley relay squad (1:50.84).

Lopez, Brown and Kailee Shermak '25 completed the 200 medley team and Shermak and Ciara Vogler '26 rounded out the 400 freestyle squad. Lopez also was second in the 400 individual medley in 4:46.25, a personal-best.

Grinnell got fourth-place finishes from Eva Cuevas '25 in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.61) and Hannah Sweet '25 in the 200 backstroke (2:15.64). Cuevas' time ranks 12th in program history.

Aliya Swearngin '25 was fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.50 and Gonzales had the same placing in the 50 freestyle in 25.23. Placing sixth were Greta Dunn '26 in the 1650 freestyle (20:07.11), Maria Rossi '25 in 3-meter diving (241.65 points) and Regan Stambaugh '26 in the 200 backstroke (2:18.23).

Maddie Sevier '23 and Jane Markovitz '26 were seventh in the 1650 freestyle (20:26.00) and 3-meter diving (233.75), respectively.

Eighth place went to Myah Rozinek '25 in the 1650 freestyle (20:36.57), Stambaugh in the 400 individual medley (5:01.95), Olivia Pluska '25 in the 200 freestyle (2:05.59) and 200 backstroke (2:19.67) and Shermak in the 100 butterfly (1:02.07).
