GC women's swimming and diving team kicks off 2023-24 season on successful note

GRINNELL, Iowa - Nine Grinnell College Pioneers were in on victories as the Pioneers began their 2023-24 season with success in Matt Hedman's debut as the team's coach.

Grinnell sailed past Coe College 178-56 at Russell K. Osgood Pool, with Molly Ryan '27 and Ciara Vogler '26 each getting three wins. Both swimmers were on the first-place 200-yard medley relay team that finished in 1 minutes, 53.42 seconds. Completing that unit were Sarah Lopez '26 and Eva Cuevas '25.

Ryan also won the 200 individual medley (2:18.06) and 100 freestyle (56.33), while Vogler took first in the 50 freestyle (25.62) and 200 freestyle relay (1:43.33) with Sophie Juethner '26, Greta Dunn '26 and Ava Rodriguez '27.

Other champs were Lopez in the 100 backstroke (1:03.15), Cuevas in the 500 freestyle (5:44.04), Samantha Cook '27 in the 200 freestyle (2:01.23) and Genevieve Martinez '24 in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.16).

Individual runners-up for Grinnell were Eva Rousseau '27 in the 1000 freestyle (12:43.02), Juethner in the 50 freestyle (26.26), Cuevas in the 200 individual medley (2:18.68), Maria Rossi '25 in 1-meter diving (157.58) and 3-meter diving (156.60), Maree Elliott '24 in the 100 butterfly (1:02.51), Mary Calhoun '24 in the 100 freestyle (58.33), Olivia Pluska '25 in the 100 backstroke (1:04.46), Annabelle Vale '27 in the 500 freestyle (5:59.67) and Dorothy Anna Russell '24 in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.27).

Grinnell hosts Iowa Central Community College next Friday night.
