Sean Colson punches ticket to NCAA D-III National Championships

GRINNELL, Iowa - Sean Colson '26, who has already put together a spectacular season for the Grinnell College men's swimming and diving team, will take his talents to the biggest stage next month.

Colson has punched his ticket to the NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championships, slated for March 15-18 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. Student-athletes qualified for the swimming portion of the event by meeting the established minimum for the events in which they entered.

Colson will compete in the 100-yard backstroke, 200 backstroke and 200 freestyle at the meet. He is the first national qualifier for the Grinnell men's team since Daniel Goldstein in 2016, and the first for the swim portion of the event since Michael Brus in 2014.

Colson, who last weekend was named the Midwest Conference's Outstanding Swimmer, won six event titles at the league meet. He posted individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:39.95 and 200 backstroke in 1:47.01. Both times rank second at Grinnell.

Colson was also on the winning 200 and 400 medley relay teams as well as 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams. The times of 1:30.72 in the 200 medley, 3:22.56 in the 400 medley and 3:02.78 in the 400 freestyle are all meet, overall MWC and school records. The 800 freestyle relay team's time of 6:49.92 ranks second at Grinnell. Additionally, Colson's leadoff split of 45.46 in the 400 freestyle relay is tied for a school record.
