Grinnell women's swimming and diving team continues proud tradition with another MWC title

GRINNELL, Iowa – The proud tradition of Grinnell College women's swimming and diving kept up the march Sunday as the Pioneers claimed their third Midwest Conference title in a row, and 23rd in the last 25 seasons.
 
Grinnell completed the task at Russell K. Osgood Pool by piling up 864 points, beating runner-up St. Norbert College by more than 130.
 
Grinnell had three champs Sunday, including a record-breaking performance by Sarah Lopez '26 in the 200-yard butterfly. She won the event in 2 minutes, 5.83 seconds to beat the meet and overall league mark of 2:06.08 by Emma Goral of Ripon College in 2016. That also bettered Lopez's own school record of 2:07.05 set earlier this season.
 
Ciara Vogler '25 added a victory in the 100 freestyle in 53.13 and Vogler, Camryn Gonzales '24, Kailee Shermak '24 and Sophia Carroll '24 claimed top honors in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:32.63. That time ranks second in program history, as does Vogler's 100 freestyle prelim time of 52.92.
 
Placing second for Grinnell were Carroll in the 1650 freestyle (18:02.66) and Gonzales in the 200 butterfly (2:10.46, fifth all-time at Grinnell).
 
Genevieve Martinez '24 was third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.14, which is eighth all-time, while swimmers placing fourth were Regan Stambaugh '26 in the 200 backstroke (2:10.10) and Dorothy Anna Russell '24 in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.15).
 
Molly Ryan '27 and Shermak were fifth in the 200 backstroke and 100 freestyle in 2:10.13 and 54.02, respectively. Sixth place went to Jenna Kollevoll '24 in the 200 backstroke (2:11.79) and Natasha Zettler '27 in the 200 butterfly (2:15.95). Zettler's prelim time of 2:13.73 ranks 13th in program history.
 
Finishing seventh were Zettler in the 1650 freestyle (18:49.19) and Sophie Juethner '26 in the 100 freestyle (54.82). Eighth-place finishers were Greta Dunn '26 in the 1650 freestyle (18:53.50) and Olivia Pluska '25 in the 200 backstroke (2:12.66).
