ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Grinnell College's women's tennis team will take the court bright and early Thursday to face Principia College in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

The 23rd-ranked Pioneers set a program record for victories this season, bringing a 22-4 mark into the 9 a.m. match at Dwight Davis Tennis Center. The No. 23 ranking is also a program best for Grinnell.

The Pioneers, who are at the NCAA Tourney for the fourth year in a row and 13th time overall, are coming off a Midwest Conference Tournament title. They toppled Lake Forest College in the championship match, running their winning streak against league foes to 39 consecutive matches dating back to the 2018-19 season.

Principia enters the match with a 12-6 mark after going unbeaten in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) and winning the league tourney with 5-1 victories over the University of Northwestern (Minn.) and University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Thursday's winner will take on sixth-ranked host Washington University at 10 a.m. Friday. The other side of the bracket includes 21st-ranked Sewanee, Concordia (Wis.), 24th-ranked Kenyon and 49th-ranked Luther.
