Grinnell shoots out to opening-round lead at SLIAC Championships

UNION, Mo. - Grinnell College's women's golf squad rode a true team attack to the first-round lead at the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Championships Sunday at Birch Creek Golf Club.

All seven Pioneer golfers hold down spots in the top 11 individually, with Kavya Keshav '26 gaining the first-round lead with a 2-over-par 74. Her steady round consisted of birdies on holes 1, 12, 15 and 18.

Vidushi Keni '26 and Waverly Yang '28 are tied for third with 78s. Keni posted two birdies on the day. Amy Nguyen '26 added a 79, Emily Lackershire '27 fired an 80, Saya Geisendorfer '27 came in at 82 and Sara Meneses '26 had an 83. Nguyen, Geisendorfer and Meneses each had birdies among their totals.

Nguyen is fifth in the 50-golfer field, Lackershire is seventh, Geisendorfer is 10th and Meneses 11th.

As a team, Grinnell shot a 309 and leads runner-up Lake Forest College by 19 strokes. The Foresters' Gabriella Krebs is second individually with a 76.

The meet continues at 10 a.m. Monday.
