Pioneer women's cross country team posts highest regional finish in 2 decades

Grinnell has 4 runners earn All-Region honors, the most for the program since 2006

WAVERLY, Iowa - The Grinnell College women's cross country team thrived on the big stage Saturday, placing fifth of 30 teams at the NCAA Division III Regional Championships hosted by Wartburg College.

Grinnell entered the meet ranked sixth in the region and finished behind only teams ranked ahead of itself while also defeating the fifth-ranked team, Loras College.

The Pioneers' team finish was the highest for the program in regionals since 2006.

Grinnell boasted four All-Region performers, also the best at GC since 2006. Leading the charge was Hannah Roark '26, who was 18th of 223 runners in the 6-kilometer race with a time of 22 minutes, 28.6 seconds.

Morgan Karow '26 repeated as an All-Region honoree by placing 24th in 22:45.2, while Lizzie Drew '29 and Arushi Kharbanda '29 also collected All-Region recognition by taking 31st and 35th in 23:10.3 and 23:18.4, respectively.

Rounding out Grinnell's scorers was Sindri Bonner '28, who was 40th in 23:28.5. Also for the Pioneers, Talia Harrison '26 was 46th in 23:40.1 and Emma Wharton-Hsieh '27 took 57th in 23:52.4.

Grinnell finished with 148 points, just 12 behind fourth-place Central College. Washington University of St. Louis won the team title with 42 points to earn an automatic berth to next weekend's NCAA D-III Championships. The Bears' Lucinda Laughlin was the individual champ, finishing in 21:29.7.

Grinnell's runners will learn their fates tomorrow as more teams and individuals will be added to the nationals field via an at-large process.
