Grinnell softball team places 4 players on All-Midwest Conference First Team

Dykstra is repeat selection, is joined on elite squad by DiCarlo, Kohler and O'Malley

GRINNELL, Iowa - For the fourth time since the 2021 campaign, Grinnell College has put at least four players on the All-Midwest Conference Softball First Team.


Hannah Dykstra '25 repeated as a first-team shortstop for the Pioneers, and was joined on the elite squad by teammates Lane Kohler '25 at the designated player position, Sofia DiCarlo '25 as an at-large selection and Kayla O'Malley '28 at an outfield spot.

Dykstra ranked among the league's top 10 in nine categories and is tops in fielding assists with 41 and second in RBIs with 16. She also ranked among the leaders in on-base percentage (.533), on-base plus slugging percentage (1.104), hits (21), doubles (five), walks (nine) and fielding chances (71). Additionally, Dykstra owns Grinnell's career and single-season records for walks.

Kohler proved to be the Pioneers' most versatile player, ranking among the MWC leaders in both hitting and pitching categories. Offensively, she ranked among the leaders in on-base percentage (.500), RBIs (14), hits (21) and walks (nine). In the circle, she was second in the league with 33 strikeouts and wins with seven.

DiCarlo, who played third base for Grinnell, was the MWC leader in hits with 27 and at-bats with 59. She also ranked among the top 10 in batting average (.458), runs (18), RBIs (15) and on-base percentage (.484). Defensively, she was among the best in the MWC in fielding assists with 28.

O'Malley, Grinnell's single-season leader in triples and at-bats, ranked second in the league in hits with 26 and triples with four. She was also on the list for batting average (.456), slugging percentage (.632), on-base percentage (.516), on-base percentage (1.148) and at-bats (57) while posting a 1.000 fielding percentage in center field.

The MWC Position Player of the Year honor went to Lake Forest College's Emmie Nyen, while Illinois College had both the Pitcher of the Year and Newcomer of the Year in Jordan Closs. Monmouth College claimed the Sportsmanship Award.
