Story on Damazo family earns district honor from College Sports Communicators

GRINNELL, Iowa - A story on a Grinnell College coaching family has won an award in the College Sports Communicators' Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest.

Grinnell Sports Information Director Ted Schultz's story about husband-wife coaches DJ Damazo and Kristland Damazo was selected as the College Division's District 7 runner-up in the category of Administrator/Coach Feature. District 7 includes Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

DJ is Grinnell's assistant men's basketball coach and Kristland the assistant volleyball coach. The story focuses on their move from Pennsylvania, where both grew up, to Iowa along with their sons. In the process, the entire family has become a familiar and welcoming fixture in the Grinnell College athletic department.

The feature on the Damazo family can be found here.
