Pioneer women's tennis team cruises to 4th consecutive title at UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invite

WHITEWATER, Wis. - Four years and counting.

Grinnell College's women's tennis team cruised to its fourth consecutive University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational title with the aid of four flight titles.

The Pioneers, who claimed runner-up honors in the other two flights, piled up 50 points to beat runner-up University of Wisconsin-La Crosse by 11 points in the eight-team affair.

Champs for Grinnell were Laurel Buttrick '30 at No. 2 singles, Luiza Kohn '29 at No. 3 singles, the duo of Logan Tom '29 and Marta Gonzalez '29 at No. 1 doubles and the No. 3 doubles team of Kayla Surpless '28 and Addie Persian '27.

At No. 2 singles, Buttrick cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 decision over a foe from UW-La Crosse in the title match, while Kohn earned a 6-2, 7-6 victory over an opponent from the host school to claim the No. 3 crown.

Tom and Gonzalez won their title match by an 8-6 count over a duo from UW-La Crosse, while Surpless and Persian were also 8-6 winners over a team from UW-Eau Claire.

Placing second for Grinnell was Pari Chavan '27 at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Margot Groundwater '30 and Eliana Martin '29.
