Box Score MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Grinnell College men's soccer team won a critical Midwest Conference contest Saturday by taking care of Monmouth College 5-1.
The win pushes the Pioneers to 5-4 in the league and a win against Ripon College Sunday would put Grinnell in the four-team MWC Tournament. Grinnell improved to 8-7-1 in all games.
Monmouth, 3-6-1 in the MWC and 3-13-1 overall, jumped on the board first with a goal not even two minutes into the game.
Grinnell came back to force a 1-all tie when
Elliot Meyer '15 scored the first of his two goals in the game in the seventh minute.
Reed Caron '13 had the assist.
It remained 1-all through halftime before the Pioneers erupted for three goals in less than a minute-and-a-half during the second half.
Caron scored his second goal of the year in the 68th minute on a double assist by
Benjamin Warner '15 and
Michael Hurley '16, Hurley scored his first goal of the season in the 69th minute on an assist by
Joseph Brown '15 and Meyer recorded his fourth goal of the year in the 70th minute on Warner's assist.
Brown concluded the scoring in the 73rd minute with his team-high 11th goal. Meyer had the assist.

Isaiah Tyree '15 earned the victory while recording five saves.
The Pioneers won the shots battle 16-7, with Meyer taking seven of those, Brown four and
Victor Ghazal '16 and Caron two apiece.
The Pioneers' contest against Ripon at Springer Field is slated for 1:30 p.m. Sunday. It is the final regular-season test for Grinnell.
