Pioneer men's soccer team loses close battle at Lake Forest

Box Score LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Grinnell College's men's soccer team won the shots battle, but Lake Forest College still managed to squeak out a 1-0 Midwest Conference victory Saturday afternoon.

The lone goal of the contest came in the 18th minute by this week's MWC Offensive Performer of the Week, Mahir Mameledzija. It was his eighth goal of the season.

Grinnell outshot Lake Forest 12-11, with Joseph Brown '15 taking three shots for the Pioneers and Omeed Kashef '14 two. Getting one shot each were Victor Ghazal '16, Pun Winichakul '13, Reed Caron '13, Lukas Eng '15, Elliot Meyer '15 and Christopher Graves '15.

Keeper Isaiah Tyree '15 had two saves for the Pioneers.

Grinnell is now 0-1 in the league and 1-3-1 overall, while Lake Forest moved to 1-0 in the MWC and 4-1-1 overall.

The Pioneers have another road contest Sunday when they take on Carroll University at Waukesha, Wis. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
