Pioneer men's soccer team shuts down Buena Vista

Box Score STORM LAKE, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team stepped out of league play Sunday and came up with its second win in a row.

The Pioneers got a pair of first-half goals and Isaiah Tyree '15 earned the shutout at keeper en route to a 2-0 victory at Buena Vista University.

Benjamin Warner '15 recorded his second goal in as many days to open the scoring in the 22nd minute as he found the back of the net on a penalty kick.

Grinnell doubled its lead in the 38th minute when Victor Ghazal '16 scored his first goal of the season on an assist by Eric Christiansen '16. It was Christiansen's first assist of the season.

Grinnell won the shots battle 13-5, as Michael Hurley '16 had five shots, Warner three and Elliot Meyer '15 a pair. Taking one shot each were Ghazal, Pun Winichakul '13 and Reed Caron '13.

Tyree recorded one save in goal for the Pioneers, who improved to 3-4-1. Buena Vista dipped to 5-3-1.

Grinnell plays the first of three consecutive home contests Wednesday when the University of Dubuque, ranked 10th in the North Region, visits Springer Field. Game time is 4 p.m.
