Big 2nd half sends Central Region's 7th-ranked team by Pioneers

Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team played the Central Region's seventh-ranked team to nearly a draw in the first half, but the University of Dubuque came back with three second-half goals for a 4-0 win Wednesday afternoon at Springer Field.

Nick McDonald had a hat trick for the Spartans as they improved to 7-2. The Pioneers, who had been riding a two-game winning streak, dipped to 3-5-1 overall.

Grinnell's defense was particularly solid in the first half as the lone scoring came from McDonald in the 20th minute.

The score remained 1-0 until McDonald scored twice more in a two-minute span, those goals coming in the 65th and 67th minutes. A goal in the 77th minute concluded the scoring.

Grinnell managed six shots in the game, with Michael Hurley '16 taking two of those and Benjamin Warner '15, David Leitson '16, Rockne Decoster '15 and Joseph Brown '15 one apiece.

Pioneer keeper Isaiah Tyree '15 faced a total of 18 Spartan shots and made 10 saves.

Grinnell has a pair of Midwest Conference home contests this weekend at Springer Field, entertaining Knox College at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Cornell College at noon Sunday.
