Pioneers sail to 3rd consecutive MWC men's soccer victory

Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team dominated on all fronts Sunday en route to defeating Cornell College 4-0 in Midwest Conference action.

Victor Ghazal '16 had two goals for the Pioneers, who won for the third consecutive time in league play while moving to 4-3 in the MWC and 6-9 overall. Ghazal now has a team-high nine scores.

Also getting into the scoring act was Nicholas Brule '17, whose goal in the fifth minute was his second of the year and gave the Pioneers a 1-0 halftime lead. The goal was assisted by Benjamin Warner '15 and Joseph Brown '15.

Ghazal found the back of the net in the 52nd and 54th minutes, with the second goal being assisted by Michael Hurley '16. Brown then scored in the 57th minute, with Ghazal being credited with the assist. It was Brown's sixth goal of the season.

Isaiah Tyree '15 worked the entire contest at keeper for Grinnell. The Pioneers outshot the hosts 34-1, with Ghazal and Brown taking 10 shots each, Rockne Decoster '15 taking four, Hurley three and David Leitson '16 two.

Cornell dipped to 0-7 in the MWC and 2-13 in all contests with the loss.

Grinnell has a big weekend approaching with 1:30 p.m. matches Saturday at Lawrence University and Sunday at St. Norbert College.
