Pioneer men's soccer team stays in contention for league tourney berth

Box Score APPLETON, Wis. – The Grinnell College men's soccer team remained in contention for a spot in the Midwest Conference Tournament with a 2-1 victory at Lawrence University Saturday.

The win was Grinnell's third in a row and fourth straight in MWC play.

Joseph Brown '15 had both goals for the Pioneers, who are 5-3 in league play and 7-9 overall. That puts him at eight goals for the year. Brown scored in the 21st minute and again in the 29th minute.

Victor Ghazal '16 assisted the first goal, his fifth assist of the season, while Michael Hurley '16 recorded his third assist of the season on the second goal.

Lawrence scored in the 41st minute to make it 2-1 at halftime, which it remained the rest of the way.

Major May '17 played keeper for Grinnell and had three saves.

Lawrence, 4-4 in the MWC and 6-9-1 overall, won the shots battle 14-10. Ghazal had four shots for Grinnell, Brown added two and Hurley, Benjamin Warner '15, Nicholas Brule '17 and Rockne Decoster '15 one each.

Grinnell plays a key contest at St. Norbert College Sunday, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
