Box Score CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Grinnell College men's soccer team dominated Coe College in its season opener Saturday, but the host Kohawks still managed to pull out a 3-2 victory.
Grinnell more than doubled the shots of the Kohawks, winning that battle 17-7.
Victor Ghazal '16 and
Elliot Meyer '15 had five shots apiece, while
Michael Hurley '16 and
Benjamin Charney '15 had two each.
Coe scored twice in the first 10 minutes, but the Pioneers roared back to tie things at 2-all. Ghazal found the back of the net in the 15th minute and Meyer added a goal under a minute later.
The Kohawks then scored in the 33rd minute, a goal that would prove to be the final of the game.
Isaiah Tyree '15 worked the entire game at goal for Grinnell, coming up with two saves.
The Pioneers play at Central College on Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m.
