Pioneer men's soccer team collects 2nd victory in a row with shutout

Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – After starting the season with three consecutive setbacks, the Grinnell College men's soccer team is on a roll.

The Pioneers won their second contest in a row Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 decision over Nebraska Wesleyan University at Springer Field.

All-Midwest Conference performer Joseph Brown '15 scored in the 20th minute for his first goal of the season, and Victor Ghazal '16 found the back of the net in the 61st minute for his team-leading fifth goal.

In the meantime, keeper Isaiah Tyree '14 recorded six saves while tallying his first shutout of the season. Grinnell is now 2-3, while the Prairie Wolves fell to 2-2-1.

Ghazal assisted Brown's first-half goal. After getting the ball from Elliott Meyer '15 on the near side, Ghazal tapped it to a streaking Brown in the box, who fired a shot on the ground into the goal.

In the second half, Ghazal received a high bouncing pass on the far side just outside the box. The Prairie Wolve keeper came out to try and corral it, but it bounced over his head. Ghazal gained control and had an easy shot on the open goal. Benjamin Warner '15 was credited with the assist.

Grinnell won the shots battle 13-11, with Ghazal and Brown taking three each and and Omeed Kashef '14 getting two apiece.

The Pioneers travel to Indianola Wednesday to play Simpson College. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
