Central defeats Pioneers in 3 sets

Box Score PELLA, Iowa – The Central College volleyball team claimed a 25-11, 25-18 and 25-20 victory over Grinnell College Wednesday night.

Claire Weidman '15 had 10 kills for Grinnell, while Natalie Duncombe '15 added six. Jeanette Au '16 dished out 20 assists, Lindsay Fujimoto '15 added 14 digs and Olivia Fromm '17 had two blocks.

After losing the first set, Grinnell kept it close early in the second set and made it 9-6 on a kill by Liz Nelson '17. It was still a 14-9 set before the hosts went on a 5-2 run to pull away.

Au served three consecutive points to get Grinnell out to a 3-0 lead in the third set. However, Central rattled off nine straight points to take command. The Pioneers rallied, though, and tied things at 17-all on Fromm's kill.

However, Central scored two points in a row and never trailed again.

The Dutch are now 2-3, while Grinnell fell to 0-6. The Pioneers will participate in the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Tournament this weekend.
