Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College hung right with Monmouth College in the first half of Saturday's football contest, but the Fighting Scots pulled away in the final two periods for a 38-3 victory at Rosenbloom Field.
Monmouth held just a 14-3 edge at halftime before scoring 14 points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth to improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Midwest Conference South Division. Grinnell is 2-6 in all games and 1-3 in the division.
David Ternes '15 moved into the second spot on Grinnell's all-time tackles chart by recording 14 Saturday. He now has 390 after passing Brett Maloney.
Daniel Munger '15 led Grinnell with 17 tackles, while
Jacob Beecher '16 added 10. Beecher also forced a fumble and had an interception.
Offensively,
Sam Poulos '16 completed 15-of-25 passes for 98 yards.
Jacob Meixler '15 had six catches for 38 yards and
Zach McGriff '18 five receptions for 32 yards.
Monmouth scored touchdowns in each of the first two quarters for a 14-0 lead. Grinnell then went to work with an 11-play drive that included a 15-yard pass from Poulos to Meixler to put the ball at Monmouth's 11-yard line.
Graham Fisher '16 finished things off with a 28-yard field goal with one second left in the half.
The Pioneers play at Lake Forest College next Saturday. Kickoff is at 10:30 a.m.
