Grinnell baseball team splits 4 games in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. – The Grinnell College baseball team split games in recent days, including a 13-4 victory over Vassar College and 5-4 decision over Clarkson University.

In the Vassar win, a five-run output in the third inning broke the game open. Anthony Mack '16 sparked the offense, going 4-for-5 with a triple, double and two singles. Matt Godinsky '16 added two hits.

Will Pahos '14 got the pitching win, scattering nine hits over six innings while fanning three batters. Andrew Kelley '14 tossed three-hit ball over the final three innings to get the save. He also struck out three.

Another five-run output, this one in the fifth inning, led to Grinnell's win over Clarkson. Walker Bell '15, Godinsky, Niko Takayesu '17 and Ryan Penaflor '16 each had two hits. Godinsky had a double among his totals.

Sam Tinkham '16 pitched three-hit ball over six innings and struck out four to get the win. Kelley tossed a hitless seventh inning and struck out one for the save.

Grinnell also lost 4-3 in another game with Clarkson and fell 8-3 to Amherst College. Eli Freese '15 went 3-for-4 with a homer and Mack had two hits.

Penaflor had three hits and Mack two, including a double, in the loss to Amherst.

Grinnell had a 4-3 mark after the contests.
