Simpson rallies to beat Pioneer baseball team

Box Score GRINNELL, Iowa – The Grinnell College baseball team built a 2-0 lead, but Simpson College rallied with three runs over the final three innings to earn a 3-2 win at Pioneer Park Wednesday afternoon.
 
Anthony Mack '16 went 2-for-2 for Grinnell, including a double. Other hits came from Matt Schaeffer '14 and Walker Bell '15.
 
Will Pahos '14 and Sam Tinkham '16 tossed no-hit ball through the first five innings. Andrew Kelley '14, the last of five pitchers, suffered the loss.
 
Grinnell scored in the first inning when Niko Takayesu '17 was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch, stole third and scored when Eli Freese '15 reached base on a fielder's choice.
 
Grinnell made it 2-0 in the third when Mack walked, stole second and scored on Bell's single to center.
 
The Pioneers are now 7-10 on the season, while Simpson moved to 11-7. Grinnell has more than a week off before traveling to Monmouth College next Thursday. The twin bill starts at 1 p.m.
